Description

Presented by: Danny Ziem, Sergeant (Ret.) Jason Lehman and Chief Roger Schei

When challenges arise, teams often turn to the person who always has the answer. While that support can be valuable, it can also create a leadership bottleneck—personnel wait for direction instead of developing the confidence and judgment to act.

Join Lexipol and Echelon Front for a panel discussion on decentralized command, the fourth Law of Combat, and how public safety leaders can build teams that understand the mission, take ownership and execute under pressure.

Drawing from real-world public safety experience, the presenters will explore how ego, control and good intentions can turn leaders into the “easy button,” limiting opportunities for personnel to grow and lead.

You’ll learn:

  • How decentralized command helps public safety teams make sound decisions under pressure instead of waiting for direction.
  • How to recognize decision-making bottlenecks and give personnel the clarity, intent and confidence to act.
  • How to use debriefs to turn mistakes, hesitation and missed opportunities into leadership growth.
  • How to apply Echelon Front leadership principles through ongoing public safety training.
  • The importance of empowering your team and not being the “easy button.”

Description

Effective July 1, 2025, the Employment Risk Management Authority (ERMA) made a significant change regarding how it manages and pays invoices on all ERMA claims.

The reason for the change is to eliminate the duplicative review process for items that are within the member’s retained limit or SIR. Currently, the ERMA Litigation Management team reviews ALL billings for accuracy and gets them into Juris (the ERMA Claims Management system).

They then send “approval” to the ERMA Member or underlying member to pay those bills within their SIR. Once a member's SIR is met, the Sedgwick Litigation Management team handles invoice payments.

To ensure all stakeholders are educated about the new process and can ask questions about the prospective changes, ERMA will hold a recorded virtual training session on the modification to the current process for all.

When staffing is strained, policies are shifting, training time is scarce, and leaders like you are under pressure to prepare for whatever comes next, your agency needs a clear view of where readiness is strong, where it is fragile, and where risk may be starting to build.

“Ready or Reactive? 5 Takeaways from the 2026 State of Readiness Survey” will explore insights from Lexipol’s State of Readiness in Public Safety Survey and what the results may mean for your agency. In this live webinar, panelists will discuss:
•    The events leaders feel ready for, and the ones they don't.
•    How leadership and wellness culture align with other markers of readiness, such as retention and the ability to quickly react to evolving challenges.
•    Practical steps leaders can take right away to improve readiness.
