Description: The Fundamentals of Government Liability and Investigations is a full-day course designed to educate its participants about local agency tort liability and investigations. Students will be introduced to the kinds of claims brought against public agencies, an overview of agency liability exposures, and investigation best practices. The course is designed for agency maintenance, public works, parks and recreation, risk management, human resources, and other staff who manage and oversee possible liability risks. The course will provide an overview of relevant laws and best practices.

About The Instructor: Neal graduated with Highest Honors from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, concentrating on local government. After that, he attended law school at the University of San Diego. Neal then embarked on a notable law career defending public agencies in claims ranging from dangerous conditions of public property and police liability to public contract disputes. In doing so, he earned the highest possible rating in legal ability and ethical standards from his peers. Neal contributed to the California League of Cities Municipal Law Handbook and has lectured many times to small and large groups on government liability. After 40 years of lawyering, Neal retired from active litigation, and he shares what he has learned and continues to learn with you. Please RSVP by May 15.
