Course description:

Safety and the Supervisor focuses on the Injury and Illness Prevention Program. This safety management system provides the essential tools supervisors need to prevent injuries and illnesses in the workplace. Individual system components are explained in detail along with implementation techniques. The Tosco Refinery fire is discussed which led to new laws making management responsible and accountable for employee health and safety.

Pre-Course Requirement:

***Obtain a copy of your organization’s Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) and bring it to class.***

Course description:

Learning to Use the GISOs teaches students how to lookup the Title 8 Regulations applicable to hazards found in the workplace. Students complete a practical exercise in class where they have to identify a workplace hazard, find the applicable regulation, and give the corrective action to abate the hazard. After completing the exercise they have acquired the skills needed to conduct workplace inspections in their organization.

Certification requirements:

  • The homework assignment must be completed and turned in to the instructor.
  • Students who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate of completion.

Course description:

This is a challenging and technical course designed to teach Respiratory Program Administrators the information and skills required to do their job effectively. Some of the topics covered are: identifying harmful exposures, methods for assessing employees’ exposures, controlling harmful exposures, voluntary use of respirators, filtering facepiece respirators, wildfires, confined spaces, air-purifying respirators, atmosphere-supplying respirators, negative and positive pressure respirators, respirator selection, environmental factors affecting use, medical evaluations, fit testing, inspections and maintenance, writing a respiratory protection program, and more.

It is strongly recommended students download the Cal/OSHA Respiratory Protection in the Workplace Guide, read it, and be familiar with the material prior to attending class.

Students who complete both days will be able to take the end of course exam.  A score of 80% or higher will demonstrate proficiency in accordance with 8 CCR GISO 5144 (c). They will receive a certificate of completion.

This course includes accessibility requirements and the role of public entities to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and related accessibility standards and regulations. You will understand the core accessibility requirements of the ADA, methods to comply with the ADA, and ways to reduce the risk of discrimination toward persons with disabilities. Policies and strategies will be outlined to provide access to programs, services, activities and facilities of a public entity. Course content includes the job functions of the ADA Coordinator, which include effective, accessible communication, tracking data such as complaints and grievances, managing the public input process, developing policies (e.g., for service animals, emergency evacuations, alternate formats), and implementing and overseeing the entities self-evaluation and transition plan.
