Contractual Risk Transfer 201 is an advanced training to ensure agencies do not unnecessarily assume liability when entering into agreements. Risk transfer is a fundamental component in any comprehensive risk management strategy and can often be overlooked resulting in legal costs and damages. This training will dive deeper into legal obligations, indemnity clauses, uses of insurance liability, that can arise through contracts. The training will spend time on lessons learned from actual cases. The training will also look at the insurance requirements for certain types of contracts. As well as a review of ISO forms commonly used by insurance carriers. The training examines processes for ensuring the effectiveness of contractual risk transfers, and identifies problems that may arise if contracts are not properly reviewed and their risks managed.

Dr. Robert May’s main career focus has been in the public sector. He has a broad depth of municipal and special district experience and worked for over thirty years in the California fire service. Bob is also the former Risk Management Program Manager for a California risk pool. His responsibilities included providing risk management guidance to members include reviewing contracts or agreements for appropriate risk transfer and insurance specification language, providing input on risk exposures associated with member-sponsored activities and events, providing field assistance, and discussing program coverage issues with members.
