You are receiving this invitation because your agency is a proud member of the Employment Risk Management Authority (ERMA), www.ERMAJPA.org. ERMA is a leading public entity risk-sharing organization that offers comprehensive employment practice liability coverage at competitive rates, paired with customized loss prevention services tailored to your specific needs.

As elected and appointed officials, your role in serving the public is of paramount importance. ERMA, in partnership with renowned firm Liebert Cassidy Whitmore, is excited to announce this is the second year of our training initiative aimed at educating and providing resources for all elected and appointed officials within the ERMA membership. This will be a comprehensive two-part training, totaling three hours.

Part I of this interactive training will satisfy the two hours of sexual harassment prevention training required by a local agency to be provided to all local agency officials or other designated employees, fulfilling the statutory requirements for preventing harassment, discrimination, and retaliation in public agencies.

Building on these expectations, the second part of this training will address best practices for elected officials to model respect, accountability, and professionalism and provide tools for developing and maintaining these important “soft skills” of leadership.

Part II will build on the legal requirements covered in the first session and provide training on developing and maintaining best practices for acting in the public interest.  Using case studies and discussion, the training will enhance critical “soft skills” of leadership, including confidentiality, courtesy, transparency, and fairness.  This part of the training will provide best practices for public service so that elected officials and members of legislative bodies can ethically, fairly, and effectively serve the public.

Description:
Contractual risk transfer is a legally binding way to transfer risk to the party that may be in the best position to control the risks related to the service to be provided. Contractual risk transfer occurs when the language in a non-insurance agreement excuses one party from financial or legal responsibility associated with specific actions, inactions, injuries, or damages. When effectively applied, contractual risk transfer can save your agency thousands – or even millions – of dollars in the event of a claim.

  • This training will review contractual risk transfer fundamentals, including:
  • Key elements of risk transfer
  • Indemnity and Insurance clauses
  • Determining appropriate insurance limits
  • Certificates and endorsements
  • Waivers of subrogation
  • Case studies
